How often should xrays be taken?
Bitewing xrays are usually taken once a year depending on your risk for cavities. Your dentist may increase or decrease the frequency denpending upon your case. Bitewing xrays help show your dentist about the bone support and cavities between your teeth. Panaromic (Pan) xrays are usually taken every 3 - 5 years. This type of xrays give your dentist a picture of your jaw and any abnormalities that may be present. This xray is also useful in checking the position of your teeth, especially including your wisdoms. Penapical xrays maybe taken at your first visit and these are full length shots of your teeth. If there is any tooth pain, your dentist will probably take a penapical radiograph of the tooth to help in diagnosis.
